The Environmental Working Group released it’s dirty dozen list earlier this year; also included in this report were the fifteen non-organic produce least likely to be contaminated. This list refers to the fruits and vegetables that are most and least affected by pesticide use.
Pesticides are toxic and have been linked to a variety of health problems including cancer, brain toxicity, and hormone disruption. This year, through EWG’s report, 70 percent of 28 non-organic samples of produce tested positive for at least one pesticide (a single strawberries harbored 20 different pesticide residues.)
Today, we hear a lot about buying organic produce from documentaries, articles, grocery stores, and movements all around the world. Unfortunately, buying organic produce and meats isn’t readily available nor is it in the budget for every individual, but maybe it isn’t crucial that we do.
Please keep in mind that this list shown is in no way trying to deter you from eating fruits and vegetables, it is always a healthier choice to eat fresh produce. Despite the chemicals used, these fresh ingredients provide our body with more good than it does bad in regards to enzymes, antioxidants, nutrients, and more.
I am providing this information to help you make an informed choice in the produce aisle that will help minimize your toxin consumption and keep to your budget. This list is a resource to help you make an educated decision and generate the best choices for your health.
